Fees & Insurance

Improving access to quality care is very important to us and PVD Psych is proud to have some providers who are “in-network” with Blue Cross Blue Shield (commercial plans) and United Healthcare.

Many of our therapists also accept UnitedHealthcare Student Resources plans.

Prior to your initial session at PVD Psych, we recommend that you contact your insurance provider to inquire about your “in-network” and “out-of-network” mental health benefits. It is important for you to be aware of your financial obligation for each session and what your insurance provider will cover PRIOR to beginning therapy. This information includes copays and the out of pocket cost per session if you have an in-network deductible. Please note that your copay for in-network sessions, and/or the cost for each session while fulfilling an in-network deductible, is set by your insurance provider and specific insurance plan.

Private Pay

Some of our therapists do not take insurance and are private pay only.

Some clients elect to pay privately and avoid using insurance for their therapy or reimbursement of its costs in order to protect their confidentiality and prevent mental health diagnoses/treatment from being released to their insurance company. If you feel strongly about keeping your permanent medical record separate from your psychiatric care, but finances are a barrier, please feel free to contact us to discuss private pay, sliding scale fee options.

Using Out-of-Network Benefits

Not all of our therapists are in network with insurance. If the therapist you are seeing is not “in-network” with your insurance, we will provide you with an invoice that you can submit for reimbursement by your insurance provider. Please note that not all of the therapists at PVD Psych are in network with insurance and that not all insurance providers reimburse the same amount so we recommend that you contact your insurance prior to starting therapy to inquire about “out-of-network” mental health benefits.

Again, please note that if you utilize your insurance to be reimbursed for any out of network costs, your insurance company will require that we provide your diagnosis and they may request your records.

Per the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

No Surprises Act

The No Surprises Act protects individuals from surprise medical billing. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost if you choose to see a provider who is not in network with your insurance.
Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and facilities are required to inform individuals who are do not have insurance or are not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage with a “Good Faith Estimate,” (GFE) of expected charges. This GFE should be present both orally and in writing at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges.
  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
  • You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019
